Creative Director, Rose Jackson, shares news of the incredible giveaway worth over $1000 that we have to offer one lucky Glory Days reader, thanks to Hotel DeBrett... One of my favourite sections of our magazine is This Vintage Town, as it puts into paper form one of my favourite activities. I love heading to a new place and discovering all the vintage and second hand treasure and nerding out in the museums, galleries and historical sites that it has to offer. I have developed pretty good instincts for hunting this out, but sometimes I neglect to find a secret spot or two and so we decided to create a guide for our readers to avoid any missed opportunities! This Vintage Town has gone through a few incarnations, but I think we have finally nailed the look and feel that I was originally after. Our Art Director, the talented Nathalie Gregory, suggested that we turn the guide on its side and make it into a "cut out and keep" section so when Glory Days readers go travelling you can simply take your guide when you are out and about, rather than having to wrangle with the whole magazine! Here's a video that we created to show you how it works in our previous issue... For our Home Issue we had the uber-talented Danielle from Devel Men & Women writing our This Vintage Town Auckland guide. If you haven't already, check out her excellent personalised collaborations that she works on with other talented folk - many of whom have featured in Glory Days such as our new Beauty Editor, Miss Victory Violet, superstar songstress Tami Neilson and New Zealand's smoothest band leader Sal Valentine! All photography courtesy of Devel, Miss Victory Violet photograph edited by Miss T Pinups Being the sprawling metropolis that it is, Danielle concentrated on inner city Auckland for this issue and I came up with an idea to offer one lucky reader a Vintage Auckland Getaway, so they could experience first hand all the sights, shopping and secret spots that Danielle had shared. I thought who better to approach and collaborate on this getaway than Hotel DeBrett. If you are looking for luxury boutique accommodation in the heart of the city that oozes old school glamour and has character in spades, look no further than Hotel DeBrett. Originally built in 1841, the hotel has gone through many changes over the years, including a stint as the hippest place to be in the 1980s and a dubious period in the '90s that many who attended would perhaps rather forget! The current owners, John and Michelle, purchased the dilapidated building in 2007 and spent two years breathing new life into the atrium, rooms, restaurant and bars, resulting in a host of awards for its food, service and quirky décor. If there is one spot not to be missed, it is the divine House Bar (pictured above), which has been fully refurbishing in the Art Deco style that it was originally designed in. Sip cocktails here while listening to jazz in the Atrium, close your eyes and revel in the elegance and luxury of times gone by. Click here to discover more about Hotel DeBrett.
