SOPHIE MACDONNELL
|
Sophie MacDonnell is an oil painter whose portrait paintings draw from Baroque, Early Renaissance and Eastern Orthodox religious iconographic styles. Sophie started painting when she was 16 and was awarded Top of the World in Art when she graduated from Cambridge A Level. Her work has recently been shown in Black Asterisk Gallery. The themes of death and mortality in her work are greatly inspired by her upbringing where she was surrounded by art and antiques - and most striking of all, her mother's large collection of strange and exotic taxidermy, and obsession which she herself has inherited. Sophie now has her own burgeoning collection of taxidermy, and is fascinated by the childlike wonder and gut-churning queasiness taxidermy can inspire. |
