JANE THORNE
|
Graduating in 1999 with a Bachelor of Visual Arts, Jane has exhibited with many Auckland galleries, including Uxbridge, McPherson Gallery and Railway St Gallery and has work in private collections in Europe and New Zealand.
Insects are the dominant feature in most of her paintings as she finds them endlessly fascinating with their unique shapes and colours. Intrigued by the obsessive nature of collectors and evolutionists, rather than collect the actual bugs and beetles, Jane gathers images and uses these as inspiration for new works. Never one to dwell on negativity, Jane focuses less on the mourning and loss in death and more in the honouring and preservation of life. Jane has a love of social history particularly a fascination with wallpapers which she has collected from various places and from differing time periods. Jane’s work brings attention to often unseen spaces and details moments that might otherwise be considered mundane. Her work is also influenced by snapshots of reality that have been significant in her own life, telling stories of personal histories. The works that Jane is exhibiting at Still Life | Wild Places are available to purchase. To discuss, please email Jane on littleblackbugs@yahoo.co.nz |
